Information Resource Management Plan Overview
The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC)’s Information Management (IM) and Information Technology (IT) focus is to provide the tools required to support it's business objectives. The Information Resource Management Plan (IRMP) is focused on developing a new database management system, and improving the management and distribution of spatial data.
In 07/08 the ALC will develop a new Property Database System to replace it's current Application Tracking System, which is no longer compliant with government standards. Using it's recently completed Analysis and Requirements Specifications document as a guide, the ALC will undertake design and build of a new system, and commence data migration. The following benefits are expected from the new system:
- Increased efficiency in the processing of applications;
- Improved data quality due to more structured data entry procedures;
- Improved data integration and support for spatial analysis via integration of application and decision data with ALC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data;
- Improved ability for the ALC to monitor conditional application approvals;
- Improved support for compliance and enforcement activities;
- Improved ability to generate mandate related statistical reports, and,
- Improved access by the public to application status information.
Emphasis will be placed on integrating spatial and non-spatial data, improving the management and flow of information, and making information more accessible.
In conjunction with the new database system, the ALC will improve the accuracy of it's GIS data-based Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) maps, including aligning it with Integrated Cadastre Initiative (ICI) data and conducting a Quality Assurance process. As the ALR map data is improved, the ALC will move towards a completely GIS-based ALR mapping system. ALR boundary spatial information will be available to the public via the website and through other government mapping tools.
