The Agricultural Land Commission has adopted a Governance Policy, which purpose is to ensure that appropriate processes and standards for conduct for the Commission, its Members and its management are established and monitored. This policy sets out standards and processes that the Commission considers the ideal for meeting its responsibilities and is amended from time to time.

This newsletter is intended to keep the public - especially those in local governments, agriculture, forestry, planning, development and other important sectors - informed of initiatives and decisions of the Agricultural Land Commission.
This newsletter is published several times a year. See archived publications for previous issues.

ALR Statistics
Tables for Area Included and Excluded from the ALR
Statistics provide information on the changes in the area of the Agricultural Land Reserve. The statistics are generally recorded on a regional district basis. The statistics provided are on a calendar basis,
they are also prepared on a fiscal basis for consistency with our annual reporting.

The Guidelines are written for local governments that are preparing official plans under the Local Government Act, that involve ALR land.
They apply to new and updated plans and plan amendments affecting lands in the ALR.
The Guidelines are an update to the Commission's "Guide to the Relationship between ALR and Local Government Plans and Bylaws", in use since the early 1980s.

This provides a brief overview of the highlights of the first 25 years (1973-1999) of the program to preserve foodlands in British Columbia.

Landscape Buffer Specifications
This publication sets out various methods of buffering agricultural operations from non-farm uses. The Commission often uses these specifications as a condition of approval of applications where appropriate. The specifications provide a practical guide for councils, regional boards, and other agencies to create or improve the buffer between agriculture and non-agricultural lands.

Planning For Agriculture
This publication contains a detailed review of plan and bylaw delivery systems and how agriculture can best fit within these processes. Key issues facing agriculture are considered along with practical suggestions and solutions that may be achieved through local initiatives. The importance of a more focused effort to plan for agriculture's sustainability through the adoption of 'agricultural area plans' and the detailed development of land use policy along critical portions of agriculture's interface are highlighted.
