Commission Panels

The Agricultural Land Commission is made up of six regional panels that carry out the duties of the Commission and represent the Commission in different areas of BC. Each panel consists of three members including a Vice Chair and two Commissioners. The Vice Chairs of each regional panel make up the Executive Committee of the Commission. The panels have responsibilities for all decisions relating to applications and planning issues for their region. Decisions of a panel are final and cannot be appealed to the Executive Committee. Panels report their regional activities through the vice-chair to the Executive Committee.

Panels are responsible for:

  • Decisions on applications
  • Plan & bylaw reviews
  • Field inspections
  • Meeting with individuals, local governments, farm and forest organizations, and other government representatives
  • Delegated decision making

The Executive Committee discusses matters such as:

  • Strategic, business and service planning
  • Policy development
  • Issues of province-wide interest and importance
  • Monitoring and coordination

Members of each panel are appointed from the region for which they are responsible. Members are selected via a process under the direction of the Board Resourcing and Development Office (http://www.fin.gov.bc.ca/brdo/).

The panel regions are:

Island Panel — responsible for the Alberni-Clayoquot, Capital, Comox Valley, Cowichan Valley, Mount Waddington, Nanaimo, Powell River and Strathcona Regional Districts and the Islands Trust.
 
South Coastal Panel — responsible for the Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver, Squamish-Lillooet and Sunshine Coast Regional Districts.
 
Okanagan Panel — responsible for the Central Okanagan, Columbia Shuswap, North Okanagan and Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Districts.
 
Kootenay Panel — responsible for the Central Kootenay, East Kootenay and Kootenay-Boundary Regional Districts.
 
Interior Panel — responsible for the Cariboo, Central Coast and Thompson-Nicola Regional Districts.
 
North Panel — responsible for the Bulkley-Nechako, Fraser-Fort George, Kitimat-Stikine, Peace River and Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional Districts as well as Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
